Unemployment rate drops to 2.8% (in Cambodia)

24 June 2003

The United States, after enjoying several years of below average unemployment rates, is now sharing the same rates as countries such as Guatemala, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Unemployment in developed countries of the world is typically between 4% and 12%.

If you're interested in moving to a place where it's easier to get a job, why not try Switzerland? In a beautiful country that gained its independence over 700 years ago, the Swiss people have a low 1.4% unemployment rate. On top of that, the 98.6% who do have jobs make more money than virtually any other national workforce on Earth. Switzerland is roughly the same size as West Virginia, but that's where the comparison ends. The Swiss per capita income is over $36,000, which is about double the standard of living in West Virginia.

With an amazing climate and surrounded by crystal blue water, the British Virgin Islands also enjoy a reasonable 3% unemployment rate.

For those who don't care about the weather, the Falkland Islands offer a cold marine climate with rain more than half the days of the year. The upside is that the Falkland's 3,000 residents live in a space almost as big as Connecticut and have a fully employed workforce. In fact, due to the labor shortage, they need more workers.
