Gettin' krunk with the BSOD

27 January 2005

Krunk is one of the latest, most popular new words making its way into daily conversation via its proliferation in hip hop.

Krunk is truly a product of popular culture - not only because it has turned up in songs by Mary J Blige, Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz and Britney Spears - but because the term was introduced on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

During a skit on the show in 1994, O'Brien debuted krunk as "America's newest swear word ...so new the networks don't know whether to censor it or not. That means we can say it as much as we want to on national television."

Examples of krunk's usage in the skit included, "You're mother's a krunk," "I'm gonna krunk his fat, white krunk," "I krunked up" and an Alanis Morrisette parody in which her lyrics were chaned to "...she goes down on your krunk in a theater."

Another term gaining poprularity is BSOD, which is sometimes pronounced as "bee-sod." The term BSOD stands for "blue screen of death" is derived from the unexpected blue error screen that appears on computers running Microsoft Windows. The error interrupts all work, causes the loss of information and can only be eliminated by the restarting the computer.

BSOD's usage is generally in regards to something not computer-related that is unexpectedly broken, screwed up, damaged or otherwise not working as expected.

"I ordered a bean burrito and when I bit into it I got the BSOD. It had steak in it." "My ex-girlfirend is going around telling everyone I'm a BSOD in bed." "He went to start his car this morning and it gave him the BSOD." "She got so krunked at the New Year's Eve party that her BSOD showed up before midnight."
