English refresher for Internet users
22 September 2007
Poor spelling and abuse of apostrophes in simple English words has become much too prevalent. This short article is especially for you if you regularly post comments on message boards, write your own blog, or change the letters on the sign in front of a fast food restaurant or store. Print it out and memorize it. The test will be every single time you write something.
YOU'RE = you are. "you're crazy"
YOUR = possessive. "your car"
IT'S = it is, it has. "it's your car" or "it's been that way"
ITS = possessive. "its bumper is dented" (No apostrophe. ITS is like HIS or HERS)
A LOT is always two words. "i like it a lot"
DEFINITELY does not have an A in it. (think "de-finite-ly")
"You're definitely not going to believe this, but it's true, your house lost a lot of its roof."
THERE = a place. "over there"
THEY'RE = they are. "they're crazy"
THEIR = possessive. "their shoes"
"They're going to sell their house and move in over there."
"I COULDN'T care less." The amount you care is so small that it could not be less.
